So today is a serious note.
Lately at the school I work for we have been hearing non stop. "We have no money. Our school is in debt. You have to save, save, save....blah, blah, blah" Well the newest set of grievances have set in. The school projects the number students that will be enrolled for the following year. The state send funding for the number of students the district projects.
Problem: More student move into the district that what was expect and now there is less money to service these student correctly. (is it just me or is this a really stupid way to get state funding. They should take enrollment at the beginning of the year and then receive funding for the actual students there)
For example: We moved a 1st grade teacher to a 2ND grade vacancy last year without replacing the 1st grade position, because someone thought that the 1st grade enrollment would be done. Ya, they were wrong.
Now we have extremely high numbers in each of the 1st grade classrooms. The students cannot possibly get the education they deserve no matter how hard the teachers work with those high numbers. The age of the students and the number of students in each class is not helping.
Many suggestions have been made and feelings have been offended in the process to fix this problem. I get the feeling that someone isn't being totally honest or we are completely missing an option.
If only, if only we could not have to deal with lack of support for schools and stupid people in government in charge of them.....if only, if only, a sad teacher cries......
